Dr. Scott Saleska, professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Arizona, has been elected a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (AGU), one of the most prestigious honors in Earth and space sciences.

Saleska is recognized for his groundbreaking research on the global ecology of carbon cycling in climate-critical ecosystems, innovative methods enabling these discoveries, and leadership in mentoring and science outreach. His work spans ecosystems from the Amazon rainforest to Arctic peatlands, investigating how vegetation and microbial communities influence Earth’s climate.

“Becoming an AGU fellow is a tremendous honor, and I am grateful to my students, collaborators, and the supportive scientific community at UArizona,” said Saleska.

The AGU Fellowship is awarded to fewer than 0.1% of members annually, celebrating those who advance scientific understanding and address pressing global challenges.
