The 2025 James B. Macelwane Medal will go to Dr. Laura Condon, a professor at the University of Arizona, in recognition of her noteworthy contributions to Earth and space science. She co-led the development of the first continental-scale integrated hydrologic model in the United States, which improved knowledge of groundwater's function in the hydrologic cycle. She is renowned for her studies on the interactions between groundwater and surface water and their effects on climate and water use. By gathering a wealth of information on reservoir operations in the United States and using machine learning to enhance water management, Condon has also concentrated on human-driven hydrologic changes. In addition to her research, she is an educator and an open science leader who creates materials to improve public knowledge and guide national water policy. Her efforts to bridge the gap between science and societal needs are commendable.
